Reading and studying the Bible is the key to spiritual growth – nothing has a greater impact. God reveals his will through his Word. Paul reminded Timothy that scripture is God breathed for our instruction, correction, reproof and training in righteousness so that we might be fully able to serve God as he has called us (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
There are three important aspects to consider as we open our Bibles.
The first is the most obvious – we must read it. A dusty Bible on the shelf does no one any good. We must make the effort to read it. Our reading must be consistent, systematic and continuous. Once we have read Genesis through Revelation, we start again!
The second aspect to consider – we must understand it. Understanding comes with the Spirit’s help. It is a gradual experience and that is one reason we read the Bible over and over again. Each time we read through God’s Word, we better understand God, our world, our own spiritual condition and all the provisions God makes for us to live an abundant eternal life.
The third aspect – we must apply it to our lives. The application of scripture to our daily lives is a key to training us in righteousness. This is another ongoing process whereby we are continually transformed becoming more like the whole image of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).
Our project, as a church, in 2026 is to read, understand and apply God’s Word to our lives. Each week throughout this year, we will provide a guide to accomplish these goals. Together, we will encourage one another, learn how we are to live and become stronger and more confident disciples of Jesus.
It is important that we also invite others to join us on this journey. In our community, we have many who have drifted away and are ready to come back, as well as many who have never followed Jesus who are seeking good things for their lives. We will sharing updates on Social Media with this in mind.
And we must pray. Pray that God speaks into our lives and that we respond with urgent obedience. Pray that others join us in this awesome journey into God’s revelation of himself and his plans for his people.
